Paula is a proud ally to Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples and works tirelessly to amplify their voices and advocate for their rights. She has played a pivotal role in bringing about systemic changes to Australia’s birth registration systems to make them more accessible to Indigenous Australians, and most recently is strenuously advocating for the full implementation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, including a constitutionally enshrined Voice to Parliament.
Professor Gerber also researches and writes about the importance of Indigenous children’s right to education, where she is critical of the models, curricula and methodology which fail to respect Indigenous culture or reflect Indigenous experiences.
